Big Lazy (NYC) at Colvin House
Join us at the historic Colvin House for an intimate evening with Big Lazy, the acclaimed New York City–based instrumental trio known for their moody, genre-bending sound. Blending noir jazz, surf twang, spaghetti western drama, and avant-garde edge, Big Lazy creates music that feels like the soundtrack to a film you can’t quite name — but can’t stop watching. Led by guitarist and composer Stephen Ulrich, Big Lazy has earned a cult following for their hypnotic performances and unmistakable style. Their music has appeared in films and on NPR, and their live shows are immersive, magnetic, and unlike anything else. Big Lazy has flourished for over two decades in New York’s downtown music scene, playing their singular brand of noir and twang from iconic NYC clubs - Tonic, The Knitting Factory, Barbès to the The Museum of Modern Art. Simultaneously gothic and modern, noir and pastoral, Big Lazy’s music conjures images from big sky country to seedy back rooms with deftness and a cinematic clarity. With sparse instrumentation (Stephen Ulrich - guitar, Yuval Lion - drums, Andrew Hall - bass) the trio forges a new American music from archetypes in Rock, Jazz and the Avant Garde.
