About Us
Saint Ita Catholic Church has been serving the Edgewater neighborhood since 1900. The beautiful French Gothic masterpiece was completed in 1927 and designed by architect Henry J. Schlacks. Today, Saint Ita is part of Mary, Mother of God Parish, which is run by the Conventual Franciscans of the Province of Saint Bonaventure. The parish celebrates daily Masses and provides frequent opportunities for Confession. It also serves Chicago's Far North Side with its Food Pantry & Soup Kitchen, operated at St. Thomas of Canterbury church (4827 N. Kenmore). In the past, former Bears owner George Halas attended the 8 AM Mass on Sundays before watching his team play; it is said you could find Bing Crosby in attendance the weekends he was in town.
